How to make bingo cards
- Type or paste your words, one per line or separated by commas, or start from a theme.
- Choose the card size: 3 × 3 for young students, 4 × 4, or the classic 5 × 5 with a free space.
- Choose how many cards you need, and whether to print 1, 2 or 4 cards on each page.
- Click Print / Save as PDF. All the cards print, followed by the caller sheet.
- Play! Call items from the caller sheet in order and tick them off as you go.
Call a clue, find the answer
Bingo becomes a review game when students have to work out the answer. Write each line as the word for the card, a dash, then what you will call:
56 - 7 × 8 habitat - The natural home of an animal or plant Ottawa - Canada's capital city
The cards show 56, habitat and Ottawa. The caller sheet lists the clues, so you read “7 × 8” and students look for 56.
Ideas for classroom bingo
- Sight words: say the word and students find it on their card.
- Math facts: call the question and students find the answer.
- Unit vocabulary: read the definition and students find the term. It makes a great review before a test.
- French or other languages: say the word in English and students find the French word, or the other way around.
- Holiday parties and supply days: a themed bingo game is an easy, low-prep activity.
How many words do you need?
You need at least as many words as squares: 9 for a 3 × 3 card, 16 for 4 × 4, and 24 for 5 × 5 with a free space. With exactly that many, every card has the same words in a different order, so many students win at once. About one and a half times as many words as squares gives each card a different mix and a better game.
Frequently asked questions
Is the bingo card maker free?
Yes. You can make and print as many bingo cards as you like, up to 40 cards per set, without an account.
Is every bingo card different?
Yes. Each card in a set has its own arrangement, and when your list has more words than squares, each card also gets a different mix of words.
How many words do I need?
At least as many as there are squares: 9 for 3x3, 16 for 4x4 and 24 for 5x5 with a free space. For a better game, use about one and a half times as many words as squares so players do not all win at once.
Can I call out a clue instead of the word?
Yes. Type the card word, a dash, then what you will call, for example 56 - 7 x 8 or habitat - The natural home of an animal. The cards show the first part and the caller sheet lists the second.
What is the caller sheet?
It is a list of everything to call out, in a random order, with a box to tick as you go. When someone shouts bingo, you can check their card against the ticked items.
How do I save the bingo cards as a PDF?
Click Print / Save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF as the destination in the print window. All cards and the caller sheet are included, sized for letter paper.
