What is addition with regrouping?
Regrouping, often called carrying, happens when the digits in one column add up to 10 or more. In 27 + 15, the ones add up to 12. Students write the 2 in the ones place and move 1 ten into the tens column, giving 42. Worksheets with no regrouping keep every column under 10, which helps students focus on lining up place values first. Always regrouping worksheets make sure every problem needs at least one carry, which is useful for targeted practice.
Tips for teachers and homeschool parents
- Different versions for each table group. Click New Worksheet a few times and print each one so neighbours don't share answers.
- Pre-test and post-test. Use one version before a lesson and a fresh version after, with the same settings, to measure progress.
- Timed fact practice. Sums to 10 or 20 in the horizontal layout work well as a one-minute fluency check.
- Save your favourite settings. The page link updates as you work. Bookmark it to rebuild the exact same worksheet and answer key later.
