Action verbs help children describe what a person, animal, or thing does. This action verbs worksheet for Grade 1 gives students clear examples and short activities to practise identifying verbs in context. Children look at pictures, choose the matching action word, and complete simple sentences.
What Is an Action Verb?
An action verb is a word that tells what someone or something does. Action verbs often describe movements or activities that we can see, such as running, jumping, reading, eating, and writing.
Young learners can begin by saying the sentence aloud and asking, “What is the person doing?” The answer is often the action verb. Picture clues make this idea easier to understand before students move on to reading sentences independently.
